Acne is a typical dermatological condition experienced by a practicing physician. It occurs in people in early adolescence to older people. The problem of acne begins from the time of onset of puberty due to various hormonal changes the person undergoes. Once it begins, one has to be very careful in handling them, as it might lead to the risk of scars. Those scars or also called as blemishes can be embarrassing, irritating, unpleasant and leads to inferiority complex. This acne problem is termed as an annoying skin disease as it occurs in various and visible parts of the body. When an acne occurs due to the over production of sebum, the body tries to solve the problem with the help of white blood cells. But this is not a permanent solution. It definitely leaves a mark, as what is called as a scar. So any how the person has to go in for some methods for the skin restoration. Before worrying about the problem and treatment of scars due to their irksome results, some analysis has to be done.

Acne Scars Analysis

First the skin type of the person and the type of scar that has been formed has to be taken into account. There are various types of scars, but mainly it is classified into two types: scar formed due to loss of tissue and the other, formed due to rise in the tissue formation. The latter is formed due to the enlargement or overgrowth of the tissues and these types of scars are called as keloids. Due to the excessive secretion of the substance called collagen, it keeps piling up into huge masses of fibrous tissues resulting in a smooth ugly scar. These scars are generally 1 to 2 millimeter thick and 1 centimeter large. These types of scars persist for longer years and may also diminish over time. The first case is due to loss of considerable amount of fine upper layer of the skin which resembles the chicken pox condition. These are still categorized into ice prick scars that appear on the cheek. They look like somewhat serrated edge with steep side and usually small. They may be hard, shallow or deep, or even soft to touch depending on the intensity of the acne and the person’s body conditions. When these ice prick scars persist for a long time they turn into depressed fibrotic scars which are usually large and has sharp edges.

Then the next type is superficial type of scars which are too soft to touch and has oblique edges that usually merge with the skin.The Atrophic type of scars is fairly shaped and appears a bit bluish and then changes into ivory color and becomes less obvious to identify. These types of scars are likely to appear on the chest and the back and seem to be like semi-developed whiteheads. This state of scar is also called as perifollicular elastolysis. Thus these are the type of scars that have to be analyzed and treated.
