What Is Acne And What Are The Reasons For It?

Acne
Acne is derived from the Greek word “akme” which means “the highest point”, also called as “point” or “spot”. Acne is generally termed for blocked pores, pimples, white and blackheads that usually appear on the face, upper arms, neck and other parts of body.
Acne is mainly caused by the oil glands of the skin when secreted excessively. It’s a skin state that happens due to too much production of sebum, an oily liquid. This oil is excessively produced due to the variations in the male hormone count.
The pores of our skin are connected to the oil glands under the dermis through follicles or small canals. Thus acne is caused when these pores are blocked due to various conditions. Though not hazardous it creates a scar on the skin. Mild acne typically resolves by time and it may not have any impact of a deep scar, but when not treated properly, the scar it leaves on the skin might be permanent and irritating. It is very widespread among the teenagers and adults up to a particular age.
Acne occurs between the age of thirteen to fifteen and disappears in the near the beginning of the twenties. In many people, acne last up to four to five years and in some strange cases it might last longer for more than eight to nine years. Acne does not depend on the factors like sex, mores, race etc. It commonly occurs almost in all teenagers due to the hormonal change. There is no clear report to showcase whether men or women suffer more from acne. But men suffer more than women from acne as the production of the acne causing hormone secrete more in men. Women commonly have acne that happens now and then, but they suffer a condition of an increased production of acne during their menstrual period due to the production of a hormone called androgen and leave more blemishes during that time. In the worst case the production of acne rises when women intake births control pills. So it is recommended to consult a physician before going in for them. Apart from the external factors, sometimes the person himself/ herself is responsible for the further development or the increase of acne. Squeezing a pimple or pricking them might leave worst results as they are the prime factors that aggravate them.
Generally it is advised not to touch or rub the acne affected parts of the body. Avoiding contact or thorough washing alone does not help in the prevention of acne, proper medication also has to be taken. Though these are good practices it might leave a dry lifeless skin. Exposure towards good amount of sunlight is suggested as it helps to reduce the acne by fighting against the bacteria that cause it and there by it leads to the lessening of soreness. But this is a risky business as too much exposure might lead to some other side effects. Thus only timely handling of acne bears a positive result.
